When I got my first look at Manta, a custom built Tim Mumby designed 47′ Power Catmaran, I could hardly believe my eyes. Well known for his sailing catamarans, this is the first and so far only Mumby power cat in existence. She is the ultimate expression of a world class cruising yacht, with a range over 3,000 nautical miles on 1300 liters of fuel. Add to that the sloop rig on a short 6 meter aluminum tabernacle mast and that range goes closer to 3500 miles.
Constructed from the ground up over a 2 year period in the Philippines by the current owner, with over 40 years and 3 circumnavigations of sailing experience himself. She was launched in 2020 then motorsailed up to Dutch Harbor, then down the west coast to her current location here in La Paz, Mexico. Over 2,800 watts of solar power, she is completely set up for off grid long distance voyaging. Every detail was designed and built with an eye toward ease of maintenance and courageous practicality.
